Ingredients
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- ½ lb Italian sausage
- ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- ¼ cup grated parmesan
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp fennel seed
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
Directions
Brown the meats and onion over med heat until no longer pink. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 15 min or until thickened.
Meanwhile combine ½ cup softened butter and 1 tsp garlic powder. Spread over top halves of bread (two 1 lb loaves of Italian bread, halved lengthwise).
Sprinkle ½ cup shredded mozzarella on bottom halves of each loaf.
Spoon the meat mixture over the cheese. Top each loaf (over the meat) with another ½ cup cheese.
Replace bread tops; wrap each loaf in foil. Bake 350°F for 25-30 min.
Cut each loaf in 8 pieces and serve.
