Holiday French Toast

Combine in 9” x 13” baking dish:
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ cup melted butter

Add:
3 Granny Smith apples, cored and thinly sliced
½ cup dried cranberries or raisins
Toss to coat well. Spread mixture evenly over bottom of baking dish.

Arrange over mixture:
1 loaf of Italian or French bread, cut into 1” slices

In a separate bowl, mix until well blended:
6 large eggs
1½ cups milk
1 tbsp vanilla
2 tsp cinnamon

Pour egg mixture over bread, coating evenly and soaking bread completely. Cover and refrigerate 4 to 24 hours (overnight is good, then it’s ready to put in the oven in the morning).

Bake covered with aluminum foil for 40 minutes at 375°F. Uncover and bake an additional 5 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes. Serve warm.
